A torsion spring is a coil spring that exerts a rotational force. The ends of these springs are connected to other components. When the component begins to rotate around the center of the spring, the torsion spring exerts equal force to push it back to its original position. These springs bear bending stress instead of torsional stress, and can store and release angular energy. They can statically fix the mechanism in place by making the leg deviate from the centerline axis of its body.
