Open Coil Springs and Closed Coil Springs
Coil spring is famous for its load capacity and shock absorption performance. These springs are divided into two types according to their coils, clearances between coils and design. These are:
Open Coil Springs
These types of coil springs are called compression springs because they have strong compression resistance. The pitch of these springs is high, which forms a large space between the coils. These huge spaces give springs unique characteristics. In addition, we can see that the rotation direction of the spring is inclined to the spiral axis. Different types of open coil springs such as conical spring barrel spring and barbell spring.

Closed coil spring
These coil spring are also known as tension spring or extension spring. These springs can be clearly distinguished because of their hooks or holes at the end. Closed coil springs are designed to resist twisting and stretching. Therefore, compared with the torsional stress, the bending stress can always be ignored. The coils of these springs are not only tightly wound, but also located on the same helical shaft.
Both open coil spring and closed coil spring have ground ends to make them smooth. The closed coil spring with grinding edge is called ground closed coil spring. Ground also helps to increase the diameter of the spring.
If you need to custom open and closed coil springs, please provide us the coil numbers, steel wire diameter, coil gap, steel wire shape, etc. Welcome to contact with us!
